Wood Fuel Accreditation

Woodsure Accredited

Woodsure are part of Hetas, the body governed with overseeing standards within the solid fuel industry which includes biomass. Supply wood chip is not just about meeting BS EN 17225-4 for fuel specification but also the process in place to ensure that final product meets with the requirements boiler manufacturers and installers insist when commissioning.
The Woodsure Certification scheme comprehensively checks woodfuel producers to ensure that they produce and supply woodfuel to the correct standard. Customers purchasing from a Woodsure certified producer can be assured that the producer has been checked and tested, and have demonstrated they are able to produce and supply a quality product.
Woodsure also provide independent testing of product and should any consumer feel the product they receive to be inferior then they can speak to Woodsure to raise any concerns they may have.

ENPlus Licenced Trader

In the early days of wood pellet production there were a number of regional standards for specification of the fuel, including Önorm and DINPlus which you will still hear mentioned in the market. Once wood pellets became a mass produced product across Europe, the industry adopted one single standard EN 14961-2 for wood pellets. ENPlus became the quality seal for the whole wood pellet supply chain, ensuring that all stages within production and delivery meant the customer was receiving the product in line with its specification. ENPlus manages the specification A1, A2 or B with A1 being the highest quality and required for most commercial and all domestic boilers which has now been adopted globally as one standard.

To meet ENPlus standards the wood pellets must be delivered through a certified trader, who by achieving the quality seal have demonstrated that deliveries will be under low pressure, have mechanical dust extraction and that the product can be traced back to source should any issues arise.
Product delivered by none certified traders will be deemed not to be to ENPlus standards.
The ENPlus is managed in the United Kingdom by the UK Pellet Council.

Biomass Suppliers List Approved Supplier

The Government wanted to ensure that on making payments to RHI accredited installations the fuel being used was from sustainable sources and reduces Greenhouse Gas emissions by 60% against the European average on fossil fuels. The Biomass Suppliers List was introduced to ensure the sustainability of the wood fuel supply chain. It ensures that the harvesting of trees is managed in a sustainable manner, have been legally felled and replenished. It also ensures that the Greenhouse Gas emissions on the full supply chain, from forest to final delivery is below the specified criteria. It also ensures the wood fuel from outside the UK meets the GHG requirements of the scheme.

UK Pellet Council Member

The UK Pellet Council was set up to administer the ENPlus standards within the United Kingdom. The UKPC steering group is run by a Board of Directors from manufacturers, distributors and installers in the UK. HETAS is the certification body for ENPlus in the UK.
The council provides information to consumers on certified suppliers and installers, information about wood pellets storage, health & safety information, training and the latest industry news.

FSC Certified

The Forest Stewardship Council is an international, non governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. The certification system looks at forestry management and chain of custody.
Forestry management is about maintaining the ecological function, biodiversity, economic viability and sustainability of the forest. The FSC logo is assurance to the consumer that trees were harvested from sustainable resources.
The chain of custody ensures that the FSC materials and products have been checked at every stage in the process. Any company involved within the process that an agreed percentage of the final product has timber from FSC certified suppliers. As an example, the wood chip supplied by Afterwood is from 100% FSC certified suppliers.
FSC is one of many schemes the Biomass Suppliers List use for the sustainability of wood pellets when approving manufacturers and suppliers.
